‘Big Break’ Gets Its Big Break: Greenwich Acquires Simple Town’s Horror-Comedy

Greenwich Entertainment tells Dread Central they have acquired North American distribution rights to Big Break, the feature debut from New York-based sketch comedy group Simple Town.

From the producers of If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, The History of Concrete, and Good One, the film had its World Premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival and its US premiere at New/Next Film Festival. Greenwich will release the film in theaters across the country next year.

Big Break takes place years after a fictionalized version of Simple Town has disbanded. Will (Will Niedmann), Caroline (Caro Yost), and Felipe (Felipe Di Poi Tamargo) reunite with their estranged former collaborator Sam, played by Samuel Lanier, for a weekend at his secluded mansion in the woods. Sam is the only member of the group to have made it big in Hollywood, thanks to the blockbuster The Gummy Bears Movie. His old friends arrive hoping to land roles in the sequel, but as dark secrets emerge, these washed-up comedians learn what it really means to kill!

We first covered Big Break in our Fantasia preview, and Chad Collins came away impressed when he caught the film at the festival. In his review, he gave it 4 out of 5, calling it “a rip-roaring horror/comedy that thrusts Simple Town to the genre forefront.” He praised the group’s chemistry and escalating humor, finding plenty to enjoy even without being familiar with their sketches.

Additional cast includes Ivy Wolk and Jefferson White. Big Break is directed by Ian Faria and written by Lanier.
