Jeff Howard and Helen Black are teaming on a series adaptation of Wendy Webb’s haunting novels, ‘The Invite’.
Jeff Howard, co-writer of Oculus (pictured above) and many other Mike Flanagan projects, is getting his chance to shine with a supernatural TV series dubbed The Invite, based on the haunting novels by Wendy Webb.
Deadline reports that Howard is adapting the books with Helen Black.
The outlet notes that the series isn’t based on any one Webb novel in particular, but instead “will weave her collective works into one interconnected haunted world that expands season after season.”
Deadline also notes that the books are based in the fictional (and haunted) lakeside town of Wharton. Season One will adapt Webb’s book The End of Temperance Dare.
Impossible Dream Entertainment, the production company behind Get Out, is teaming with the UK’s Wall to Wall to develop and executive produce The Invited.
Said Webb, “When Shaun Redick, one of the producers of the stunning Get Out — which I saw three times in the theater — contacted me about adapting my work into a series, I had to sit, staring into space, for a good long while. When he told me Jeff Howard, a writer and producer of Midnight Mass and Haunting of Hill House — which I have binged-watched more times than I care to admit — was involved, life got a little surreal. Then, I met the brilliant Helen Black, and I started bragging to whoever would listen. I am honored and privileged beyond measure to be working with these geniuses of the genre to bring my books to life.”
Wendy Webb, she’s just like us.
I, too, would brag if I had that kind of talent attached to an adaptation of my books. It would be cool enough to have Black and the producers of Get Out attached. But to have Howard, who has had a hand in Flanagan’s Oculus, Midnight Mass, Haunting of Hill House, and others…well, let’s just say, he’s a great fit for a good, scary haunter.
